My 1 minute opener at the Springwood Sixth Form Debate

April 6, 2017 11:11 AM
By Rob Colwell, West Norfolk Liberal Democrats

"Good afternoon, my name is Rob Colwell. I am Vice Chairman of West Norfolk Liberal Democrats. I have lived in King's Lynn for over 30 years. I am a solicitor in the town and I was the West Norfolk representative for StrongerIN during the EU referendum.

I am gutted, worried and angry at the hard Brexit stance this Conservative government are insisting on push through, backed by UKIP and Labour. They are riding on a dangerous, populist, anti immigrant stance that threatens to rip the United Kingdom apart, threaten jobs, and the rights of vital EU workers.

Hate crime is reported to have increased after the vote in the streets, in our hospitals and in our playgrounds. Lets not mince words. The people were lied to by leave campaigners. The people deserve a right to vote on any future Brexit deal.

I hope everyone in this room has the same opportunities and experiences I've had in the future, in work and travel. Springwood, we should be Open, Tolerant and United."
